Build a tractor beam, sleep only for 2-3 hours a day without feeling like a zombie, and defeat cancer with the power of your thoughts! Impossible? Think again!

Last week I didn’t hang out at Twitter and Facebook as much as usual. Obviously, this results in less links in the weekly collection. But there are some really good news: Global poverty seems to decline rapidly! I wonder what’s the reason for that.

Yes, the title is a bit crazy, but at least it lists the main topics of the tweet collection for this week in a creative way. While it’s still a long way from the Jeopardy winner Watson to real (hopefully friendly) artificial intelligence, we could try to improve ourselves by leveraging the placebo effect in a clever way right now. That effect seems to be so strong that I wonder whether it would be a good idea to produce placebos against all kinds of problems and use or sell them as placebos (in the sense that you know it’s just a placebo, but you believe in its effectiveness anyway) to fix those problems. Regarding the problem of energy however, I think that solar power is the future, since the efficiency of solar cells increases rapidly, and it becomes cheaper at a faster rate than any other energy source (especially in Australia for example).
